Accommodating Truss Movement (Besides Vertical Deflection)

Vertical deflection resulting from live and dead loads – of both roof and floor framing components – is an important serviceability consideration in the overall design of the building. And while this could be a topic in and of itself, this article is instead going to focus on two other types of truss movements that often prompt questions: seasonal up-and-down movement (of the trusses ...

New High Efficiency Furnace, New Moisture Problem

Jun 23, 2009· When Nelly replaced his natural draft furnace with a high efficiency furnace, he stopped wasting all that warm, moist air. In reality, the high efficiency furnace didn’t ‘create’ the moisture problem; it just replaced a less efficient furnace that was helping to prevent a problem.

Allowable deflection is based upon the span^4. This makes the deflection at 2.84375 feet (34-1/8”) 20.692 times the deflection of 1.333 feet (16”). Using 130 psf / 20.692 results in a maximum psf of 6.28 which is less than the calculated 8.232, so 5/8” gypsum drywall would not be …

Air Flow Control in Buildings | Building Science Corp

Oct 15, 2007· Introduction. It has long been recognised that the control of air flow is a crucial and intrinsic part of heat and moisture control in modern building enclosures [Wilson 1963, Garden 1965].]. That this statement is true for all climates has been a more recently developed awareness [Lstiburek 1994].A large fraction of a modern, well-insulated building's space conditioning energy load is due to ...
